South Warren Greenway Ribbon Cutting - April 10, 2014

South Warren Ribbon Cutting

The South Warren Shared Use Path connects Richpond Elementary School with Michael O. Buchanon Park and the Woodburn Community Center. The first phase of construction was completed in 2013. This phase begins at Richpond Elementary on KY Hwy 242 (Richpond Road), loops around South Warren Middle and High Schools, and terminates at a traffic signal on US 31W (Nashville Road). Improvements at Michael O. Buchanon Park, a multi-purpose county facility that features athletic fields, a playground, and a 2.1 mile walking trail, are currently under construction and will be completed summer 2014. Future phases include construction of a shared use path along KY Hwy 240 (Woodburn-Allen Springs Road) and a connection to the Woodburn Community Center on Fletcher Street. The future widening of US 31W by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will include facilities that “close the gaps” between all phases and will complete the 4.5 mile project.

Bowling Green’s First Greenway

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet included shared use paths in the widening of Cemetery Road (KY 234) and Lovers Lane (KY 880) from Kereiakes Park to the Soccer Complex. This path is connected to the Riverfront Park via a Greenway that extends behind the Kroger shopping center.

Future Connection - an Inner Loop

Several roadways form a loop around Bowling Green: Cemetery Road, Fairview Avenue, Sixth Avenue, Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Campbell Lane and Lovers Lane. This “Inner Loop” connects several of our major parks and other destinations: Kereiakes Park, Roland Bland Park, the Depot Library, Hobson Grove Park, Russell Sims Aquatic Center at Preston Miller Park, Lost River Cave, and the Lovers Lane Soccer Complex. The greenway will eventually extend around this loop and, where there is neighborhood interest, through adjoining neighborhoods.
