Purpose of Position:

The successful candidate will be an integral part of a team that helps guide growth and develop plans for the future of our dynamic community. The individual selected for this position should have a general knowledge of, or be willing to learn the principles and practices of local government planning, and how to balance a variety of interests and development philosophies while advising best practices in planning along with applying regulations found within local planning documents. The successful candidate must be able to provide exceptional customer service and is expected to perform duties including, but not limited to:

 

  • Assist in administering regulations in the Zoning Ordinance of Warren County;
  • Assist in review of applications and development plans for compliance with applicable ordinances and regulations;
  • Ability to interpret, explain and apply laws, codes, rules, review procedures, regulations and ordinances applied to land use planning;
  • Assist in the preparation of staff reports and give presentations at public hearings to the various boards of the Planning Commission;
  • Assist in the preparation of focal point plans and corridor studies;
  • Assist patrons and answer inquiries regarding regulations, ordinances and the comprehensive plan;
  • Provide technical assistance for the various boards of the Planning Commission;
  • Research, assemble, and maintain data for inclusion in and preparation of written reports and documents;
  • Prepare and update various documents, informational brochures and website content;
  • Use discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance to the Planning Commission;
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, architecture, engineering, social sciences or related field.

 

Experience: No professional planning experience is required. One year of experience and/or completion of an internship in planning or a related field at a public agency is preferred. Excellent organization, written and oral communication, and public relation skills are required. A valid driver’s license is required.

 

Skills & Knowledge: Required or willing to learn and apply the following:

 

  • Basic principles and practices of urban planning and development.
  • Purpose and intent of a comprehensive plan and how it is applied to land use decisions.
  • The purpose and intent of zoning regulations.
  • General knowledge of landscape design, geography, economics, and state and local planning laws.
  • Ability to understand and interpret site development plans and subdivision plats.
  • Navigate, interpret and analyze GIS mapping information.
  • Basic computer functions including Microsoft Office software.
  • Technical report writing, research methods and data compilation.
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Managing multiple assignments and learning to set priorities.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

Starting Salary Range:

$44,000 to $50,000 annually, DOQ. Benefit package includes: pre-paid health and dental premiums, retirement plan, paid holidays, (PTO) paid time off. Purpose of Position:

The successful candidate will be a critical team member that supports the staff and various boards as they help guide growth and develop plans for the future of our dynamic community. The individual selected for this position should have a general knowledge of recording legal documents and be willing to learn planning and local government procedures. The successful candidate must be able to provide exceptional customer service and is expected to perform duties including, but not limited to:

 

  • Provide clerical and administrative support for Planning Commission staff and the various Planning Commission Boards;
  • Act as recording secretary for the various Planning Commission Boards and meetings;
  • Maintain records and files for each property pertaining to various Planning Commission activities;
  • Assist in coordination of activities with sister agencies;
  • Performs other routine clerical tasks such as preparing correspondence, posting information to the website, filing and photocopying;
  • Assist in answering and directing telephone inquiries and greeting patrons;
  • Use discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance to the Planning Commission;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Education: This position requires a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

 

Experience:  Prior experience in a clerical position is required. Preference will be given to experience with recording legal documents and providing exemplary customer service.

 

Skills & Knowledge: Required or willing to learn and apply the following:

 

  • Competency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication, and public relation skills.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Basic computer functions including Microsoft Office software.
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Managing multiple assignments and learning to set priorities.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

Starting Salary Range: $38,000 to $45,000 annually, DOQ. Benefit package includes: pre-paid employee health and dental premiums, state retirement plan, twelve paid holidays, (PTO) paid time off.
