The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) kicked off a transportation study analyzing future improvement options on Smallhouse Road from US 231 (Campbell Lane) to KY 884 (Three Springs Road) last fall. We held a public survey in December, followed by a public meeting in late February, where over 200 area residents and commuters came out to learn more about the future of the corridor.
While roundabouts might not have been the most favorable improvement concept, based on those in attendance, many of those present at the meeting and through the survey communicated the need for slower speeds, improved safety, and some sort of action to accommodate current and future growth. Though that growth is inevitable, we can take actions now to help us plan for the future. A variety of recommendation options are proposed by the consultant team, HMB, with a final report being published on our website later this spring/early summer. They’re looking at short-term, quick-win options, along with longer term investments to accommodate projected traffic growth along the corridor – which is projected to be higher than average.
